HOLIDAY CLOSURE

THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT and ARCHAEOLOGY SECTIONS WILL BE CLOSED FROM THE 12 DECEMBER 2020 TO THE 17 JANUARY 2021 (INCL).

THE AMAFA OFFICE AT 195 LANGALIBALELE STREET WILL BE CLOSED BETWEEN THE 24 DECEMBER 2020 AND THE 1 JANUARY 2021 (INCL), RE-OPENING ON THE 2 JANUARY 2021.

BUILT ENVIRONMENT MINOR WORK APPLICATIONS: the deadline for the last session for applications for minor work to be fast tracked will be 12:00 on the 03 December 2020.  The first open Monday of the new year will be the 13 January 2019.  Minor work is defined as work on additional structures – alterations/construction of outbuildings, boundary walls, swimming pools, etc. – or very minor internal alterations to structures over 60 years of age (excluding listed or permanently protected heritage resources).  Emails must be labelled MINOR WORK – street address.

DEVELOPMENT (s38/s41) AND ARCHAEOLOGY PERMIT APPLICATIONS: these must be uploaded to the SAHRIS system. The applications will be handled in the order in which they are submitted.

Whilst the Institute will endeavour to handle as many applications as possible before the break, it will not be able to process most of the complex applications received between now and the 11 December 2020.  Applications not already received are likely to be held over until the 18 January 2020 when they will be handled in the order in which they were received – allow 127 days for processing (the normal 90 days plus the 37-day break).

During the break applications may still be submitted via email to beadmin@amafapmb.co.za, alternatively via sahris (www.sahra.org.za).  If Built Environment applications are loaded to Sahris, a message must be sent to beadmin@amafapmb.co.za.  Receipt of applications received during the closure will only be issued in the order in which they were received after the 18 January 2021.

At least a third of applications received are incomplete.  Applicants must ensure that all the correct documentation is submitted in order to speed up the processing of all applications.

LOCKDOWN REGULATIONS: please note that lockdown regulations still require that physical access to the Institute’s offices remains extremely limited until lockdown restrictions are lifted.  HARD COPY APPLICATIONS ARE NOT BEING ACCEPTED.  Some staff members continue to work from home during Lockdown 1.  Please phone the office on 033-394 6543 to find out when those staff members will be back in the office.
