Regina van Vuuren, Amafa Assistant Director Exhibitions and Collections has been eleted President of the South African Museums Association (SAMA). The honour was conferred at the SAMA 2017 conference entitled Contested Histories; Saying the Unspeakable in Museums. Regina van Vuuren has been a member of the SAMA Natonal Council for four years, the last last two as Deputy President. She took over the reigns from Mr Victor Netshiabha of the Freedom Park Museum. In her acceptance address Regina undertook to address the critical museums skills situaton with work on development of a South African undergraduate museums qualification. The Association has also embarked on a Strategic realignment to improve the positioning of the museum industry, making its collections more relevant to the public it serves.
