THE KwaZulu-Natal Heritage Council has appealed to the province?s artistic community for suggestions to honour the grave of Inkosi Dingiswayo, protector and mentor of King Shaka during his youth.

Dingiswayo, leader of the Mthethwa people, died in 1817 in a clash with the Ndwandwes and is buried at Oyengweni, near Heatonville.

The grave site is on a small hill dominated by a large Euphorbia ingens tree which is believed to mark the actual grave.

The Council seeks a suitable memorial to a leader who played a key part in the formation of the Zulu nation, which would also become a reference point for tourists.

Suggestions should be directed to Mr Barry Marshall, Director of Amafa/Heritage, at PO Box 523, Ulundi 3838.
